SYNOPSIS
Lengua madre (Mother tongue) is an encyclopaedia of 21st-century reproduction, developed from the stories of migrant mothers, trans parents, mothers after assisted fertilisation, lesbian mothers, gay fathers, women who have had abortions, adoptive mothers, women who do not want to have children, and many others who wonder how to reinvent the word mother.
Lola Arias (Argentina, 1976) is a writer, theatre and film director, and performer. She collaborates with people from various backgrounds (war veterans, ex-communists, Bulgarian children, etc.) in projects involving theatre, literature, music, film, and the visual arts.
Her works straddle the border between fiction and reality, and have been presented in highly prestigious theatres and festivals around the world, including at Lift Festival (London), Sterischer Herbst (Graz), Festival d’Avignon, Theater Spektakel (Zurich), and Under the Radar (New York).
