Teatro Valle-Inclán | Sala El Mirlo Blanco
Our workshop will explore Kulunka’s shows with masks and no text, in which those who participate will have the opportunity to create both on the stage and of it. From the inside, facing the difficulties of wearing a mask (poor visibility, problems breathing, not knowing what your partner is doing…) having to apply a technique that refines the gesture and has the audience as the main interlocutor. And from the outside, being “the eyes” of the actors who are working and providing solutions to dramaturgical problems that arise.
In the end, the challenge is to create a story with not text but in which we don’t miss words. To do this, it is essential to choose the situation well, to find the objects that can best replace the conflicts, to look for the most eloquent actions and to choose the events on stage to share with the audience. All with a view to creating an unequivocal interpretation of what is happening in the spectator.
The company Kulunka Teatro, created in 2010 in Hernani (Gipuzkoa), was born from the interest of its members in experimenting with different scenic languages in the service of a theatre accessible to all audiences. A theatre that is committed and connected to reality.
In its thirteen years of existence, Kulunka has made its way among the leading companies in Spain to become a solid structure with an outstanding international projection. Its productions have accumulated nearly 1000 performances in 30 different countries, an important track record that attests to the relevance and recognition of the company within and beyond our borders.
