Mélanie Werder Avilés

Mélanie Werder Avilés (La-Chaux-de-Fonds/Menorca, 1992) began her acting training with Pitus Fernandéz and Matilde Muñiz (at the Orfeón Mahónes and the Escola d’Art Dramàtic de Menorca) while continuing her training in research and journalism at the same time. She holds a degree in journalism and audiovisual communication from the URJC and a Master’s degree in Theatre and Performing Arts from the UCM. She holds a PhD in Theatre Studies from the Complutense University, where she is Principal Researcher of the U-CM Scene project: Teatro Documental contra la desigualdad.

She won the award for best playwriting from the Federación de Teatro Universitario for her play Las Uñas Kodak (2020), as well as the award for best solidarity initiative from the Complutense Chair for her project TeatroXTeléfono (2021).

She has received grants from the Teatre Lliure (Carlota Soldevila Dramaturgia 2020), the Sala Cuarta Pared (ETC En Blanco 2020), and has been a member of the 9th SGAE Playwriting Laboratory (2021). She has been part of the International Playwriting Workshop of the Sala Beckett (2022).

She believes in writing as suggestion, as an act of cunning, as a peephole into which the eye, at times so uncomfortable, relaxes momentarily.
